Candidate Statement: Andrew Stumme Associate National Executive Director

I love this work and I love our Union!

It is with humility and enthusiasm that I accept the nomination for Associate National Executive Director (ANED) of the Art Directors Guild, IATSE Local 800.

Eight years ago, I was given the opportunity to serve as the Art Directors Guild field rep, allowing me to bring my 15 years as Art Director and understanding of the complexities of the Art Department to the position. I believe the combination of working in an art department paired with my experience of serving as your field rep places me in a uniquely qualified position to serve as your next ANED.

If elected I will bring my experience, passion, & optimism to the job. I will continue to fight for our sisters, brothers and kin, with the goal of protecting our future as workers. I will remain committed to organizing and will prioritize working with our partners in labor and government to address the offshoring of our work, enforcing and policing our contracts, continuing to prioritize national jurisdictions for all crafts represented by local 800, and striving to have our issues addressed at the bargaining table.

We are at a critical moment in the entertainment industry as well as the labor movement. ADG Local 800 can and should play an important role in this moment.

We will prevail by leaning on our strength, solidarity, and community. Looking at how we address this moment I know I cannot do this work alone. Being in a Union means we lock arms and collectively work toward a better future together. In my life, asking for and accepting help has been challenging. Experience has taught me that when success is achieved, it is never attained alone, it is done with the help of others.   Now I am asking for your help in this fight.

The decision to accept this nomination was carefully considered and did not come easily. To run for this position, I must honor my staff union contract and resign my position as the Director of Field and Organizing. This decision emphasizes my commitment to serve every member of ADG Local 800.

While working at the ADG, collectively we have faced many big challenges: a global pandemic, strikes, work shortages, tough negotiations, natural disasters, and political opposition, just to name a few. Through it all I have seen first-hand the strength and resilience of this Union family. When things get tough in my house, my 9-year-old daughter, says, “It will be ok because we are Stumme Strong”. Using that sentiment, during this time, I hope that I can earn your vote and together we will be ADG STRONG!

Respectfully

Andrew C. Stumme
